My journey from FFXI to FFXIV:ARR: A new Adventure starts in 2.0

When I logged back into FFXIV, I felt really nostaglic. I knew the background music of Gridania, the town itself was also quite familiar. It was great!

I also had some jobs/classes leveled already:

2013-08-27 all classes unlocked

Like a pro!

Not.

Yeah, I did get far in a few months of FFXIV 1.0….. <.<; Totally far…

I arrived in town like a new visitor.

2013-07-13 Riiko

Read more in my previous post about how lil Riiko developed and grew!

https://riikorinkoko.wordpress.com/2015/08/27/special-happy-2-year-anniversary-a-realm-reborn-riiko-2-years-ago/

Yes, I changed my character design. The name remained the same. This girl is the cousin of old war veteran Riiko Rinkoko who disappeared during the Calamity. Rumors state that she got trunk in the tavern and died an unhonorable death. This is why Neo Riiko Rinkoko can’t stand her.

Below you can see some similarities between Yuuzuki and Neo Riiko. This is completely not intended *COUGH*

2015-09-01 Yuuzuki Riiko Comparison

I kinda wanted Yuuzuki to have blue eyes already, but this was not an option in FFXI.

Maybe Riiko is Yuuzuki in an alternate reality?

Anyway, the game guided the newly arrived adventurer through town and explained really everything. If you read the help texts and followed the main story quests.

FFXIV felt a lot faster than FFXI which I felt mostly during healing. In FFXI you had time to chat while fighing. You could write inbetween casts or while casting without problems. In FFXIV you do not have time for that or your DPS will drop to the point where people will think you are an idiot who can’t play their job. Or you let your tank die and the group wipes. So I had to learn to play faster, heal faster, type faster. ò.óV

Mighto organized that we all changed to Excalibur Server. In the mean time, Selbina Server had become Ridill server due to low population. We changed to Excalibur as EuroAsylum was there which we intended to join once more. There, I met some familiar faces but also some new faces which had joined during 1.0! I gained some kind new friends and by now, I even have become officer, although I don’t really feel like I have become any more important or powerful than I was before. I’m still little Riiko who likes to do social events and join all other events, too. Haha~

I’m really happy that many friends from FFXI play FFXIV nowadays. I would hate to see some friendships grow distant again.

Can you believe it’s already 2 years since FFXIV:ARR or 2.0 was released?

And can you believe that the “best item level” has increased from 90 to 200? I remember, in FFXI you worked on your gear for months and it was still good after years.

Everything is moving faster now. Everything is changing, evolving.

And so is the development team of FFXIV. The changes of the rebirth of the game were tremednous and I’m happy things changed as they changed. I would just like to have gear that is still good after a year. But this will not happen.

My journey from FFXI to FFXIV:ARR: Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 boredom?!

In the middle of FFXI gaming, Final Fantasy XIV was announced and released. It had awesomely new graphics and we all hoped, it would be amazing. It was clear for me that I would create a Lalafell and I worked already in advance on the looks and character of my little Lalafell.

We at RisingPhoenix decided to go to the server called Selbina because that is a town in FFXI. So we hoped for many other FFXI players to go there too and play with experts.

I started the game as Riiko Rinkoko, an experienced war veteran who was super strong but hid her true powers.

Arrival_in_Gridania-10

She loved spending time at the tavern while drinking and having her pupil Kyle Randyll clean up after her – which was played by Mighto.

Kyles-progress-01

Samti became Leonie Killaflausch and did lots of crafting sessions with me. As usual, Samti was more dedicated to crafting than I was. It was also quite complicated and comparable to FFXI crafting.

Guildleves-06

Scott Randyll, Mighto’s new main character, was an old war friend of Riiko and they enjoyed talking about “old times” etc. Of course, both were supposed to be super strong!

Scott-02

Many of us played FFXI 1.0 but over time, more and more went back to FFXI.

Adventuring-07

I was one of them. I returned to FFXI although I liked the new graphics and adventures… but…

Adventuring-10

…I couldn’t live with the lag. It was bad. You hit a button and 1-2 seconds later, something happened. This was in the normal menu, it was in battle, it was everywhere. This was making me rage like crazy after some time of thinking “maybe it gets better”. Yes, this was the main reason, I think…

But apart from that, I also felt like there was no clear structure in story and everything. Somehow, it felt a bit empty to me. FFXI had given me much more depth and somehow 1.0 felt rather boring to me. :\ Some friends including Mighto stayed in FFXIV and sometimes I felt really bad for not liking it as much as he did. Others, including me, went back to FFXI.

Years later, FFXIV 1.0 was brought to an end in order to be revived with “A Realm Reborn” and I decided to give it another try.

My journey from FFXI to FFXIV:ARR: Advanced adventuring in Final Fantasy XI

Tarutaru and Lalafell are pretty much the same.

They try to be really attractive but completely fail to be what they want to be 100%. Everyone looks disgusted but in the end, they are just ultra-adorably cute.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Tarutaru

The great thing about FFXI was, that you had to rely on other players, be part of a linkshell and, preferably, be a group of friends.

Whatever you did, you needed others to succeed. It was awesome and you would easily find new friends. Most people seemed really friendls from the start.

FFXI-2015-09-01 LS Picture 02

We did a lot together! While the party size was only 6 people and standard battles were designed for a 6-man-group, you could always do different things with different friends cause there was just so much to do!

FFXI-2015-09-01 LS Picture 01

We also gathered for seasonal events like Christmas and even organized our own little party and dance performance!

FFXI-2015-09-01 LS Picture 03

FFXI offered many fun non combat activities. Like bridge sliding.

You sat on the bridge in Bastok. Tried to sit as much in the middle as possible.

Then, you waited.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Fun stuff 03

Every 15 minutes or so, an airship would arrive and 5 minutes later, it would depart. For both events, the bridge would open and slide you off to either side. The side with the most people on it, wins. XD

FFXI-2015-09-01 Fun stuff 04

You could also travel to Uleguerand Range, which was a 1 hour trip. It had a lot of dangerous enemies on the way. Using Sneak (sound detection) and Invisible (sight detection) to prevent aggro was a must. The fun thing about this area were the True Sight and True Sound enemies. They aggroed you even with these spells on you. There were also enemies aggroen to magic so if you recasted your sneal/invi you had to be not around those enemies. If your whole group or those who could raise, died, it was all over. XD

Did I mention, that the spells lasted 10-30 seconds? Randomly.

Anyway, the goal was the giant slide.

It was a sownhill slope. You could just slide down for like 20 seconds or so and hope your sneak/invi doesn’t wear off.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Fun stuff 01

Unfortunately, there were holes in the slide and you didn’t always end up where oyu wanted to be… @.@

FFXI-2015-09-01 Fun stuff 02

There were also these endgame instances called Dynamis. Basically every major town had this. You needed and alliance of 3 parties to beat these.

For Dynamis, many of us joined the EuroDynamis Linkshell which was a nice linkshell for Dynamis at european times.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Dynamis 01

Many of them were part of EuroAsylum, their social Linkshell which we joined later on – but always kinda prefered our small circle of friends in RisingPhoenix.

Anyway, Dynamis was like: Thief pulls enemies, Black mages sleep-nuke dangerous things. Tanks were in party with the healers so they could be kept alive efficiently. DPS parties just DPSed. It was really strategic and everyone had to work together.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Dynamis 02

If not, this happened.

It sometimes happened, even if you did work together.

For example, if a NM decided to charm some of us.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Dynamis 03

This also happenes years later in the Adoulin expansion with new max level… Everyone could enter these and everyone could die. People did die in these. A lot.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Dynamis 04-Adoulin version

The server Sylph was an international server located in Japan. All servers were located in Japan. So naturally, we had lots of japanese players.

I became friends with Pecor, a Lalafell I met in the Valkurm Dunes while leveling. He was amazed how I was writing in japanese which I was learning in evening classes.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Pecor Yuu050709012048a

Schnuckiputz came to meet him too and decided, he wanted a japanese boyfriend for Samti!

FFXI-2015-09-01 Pecor Yuu050727234354a

It didn’t take long and Samti became friends with Roy.

Roy was a funny guy!

FFXI-2015-09-01 Roy img_20120513_190155

Actually, here he is. He was just wearing a costume up there…

Samti didn’t speak japanese and Roy didn’t speak english or german. They communicated throug auto-translation or through my broken japanese. XD It was really funny. Sometimes, he asked me how samti was doing ö.ö So adorable!

FFXI-2015-09-01 Roy img_20120511_232903

As time passed on, we all became more and more higlevel and expert! I did a lot with Chaosi and Mighto and it was fun.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Beach

We finished the Wings of the Goddess expansion together. ö.ö

FFXI-2015-09-01 WotG

Unfortunately, we didn’t finish Adouling – or at least I didn’t – because midway, FFXIV 2.0 came out and I got hooked to it. XD

All in all, FFXI was a great game. It was my first MMORPG and even when I tried out others, they just couldn’t reach the awesomeness of this one. They lacked story, excitement, things to do, the friendships… They all seemed to not rely on others, they seemed more like Single Player RPGs with random adventurers running around you.

Of course, FFXI lacked many things and everything took time. I still loved it!

Thanks to FFXI I have found good RL and ingame friends who I’m still friends with. This, I’m very thankful for. We still fight side by side, we just have moved on to Eorzea.

Moving on to FFXIV came with some struggles in FFXIV 1.0. but read for yourself tomorrow.

My journey from FFXI to FFXIV:ARR: First steps in Final Fantasy XI

It was in 2005 at the time of the final school exams.

My friends Chaosi and Mighto approached my friend Auroora and me and told us about this new “MMORPG” called Final Fantasy XI. It was released in Europe now but it was still completely in english. We talked a lot about it and I was completely hooked by what Chaosi and Mighto told us about it. Auroora and me decided to order the game but not play it before our final exams.

The game came with a small, printed game guide and I read about everything in it. Then, Auroora and me decided to start the game nevertheless just before my last exam in school which was in art class about history of art and interpreting pictures. As we used to write RPG stories about characters we had made up, we had already our characters and their background story completely planned out.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Lyr050427011522a

Lyron and Shiona were Elvaan who lived in Bastock. They were supposed to become a couple – what else would 17/18 year old girls make up as story! XD

I still remember the first time we entered the Valkurm Dunes and joined our first EXP party. The group was like: Do SC! Skill Chain! GOGOGO!

And we were like: What’s a skillchain? :O

Thanks to the Linkshell Rising Phoenix that we had been invited to by Chaosi’s and Mighto’s friends, we got to know what a Skill Chain is: Two weapon skills used about 2-3 seconds apart from different people – because you only gained TP slowly by auto-attacking.

It didn’t take long and Auro and me fell in love with Tarutaru or Miqo’te. So we created Yuuzuki and Auroora.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Yuu050531184807a

Ever since, we slowly stopped playing Lyron and Shiona and focused on our new characters.

RisingPhoenix was an LS that existed long before FFXI. It was a clan in some First Person Shooter game and the friends changed over to FFXI. They were mainly German but also some others from all over Europe.

Please note that in FFXI, you could only have one Linkshell active at a time, so you couldn’t chat in several ones at the same time.

One of these experienced players was Samtfpoetchen, or Samti. Samti was already level 72 when we started playing, so nearly max level 75! For me, this was like a really big thing to talk to a highlevel player! I had so much respect!

…had…

Samti loved to fish things. Which was actually really boring to me. <.<;

FFXI-2015-09-01 Yuu050606221656a

Due to the high level and several slightly leveled jobs, Samti could help us newbies out in time of need!

Dying was a gib deal in FFXI. You not only lost exp and could delevel if you were unlucky… If you decided to go back to you home point, you had to travel all the was to where you had been fighting. And if unlucky, this could include ships or airships which only came at fixed ingame times and it took them 5-15 minutes to travel from one to the other location… So you might spend 30 minutes just to get to the next town, then walking or using the Chocobo (at level 30+) to get to your leveling location… 1 hour wasted.

So Samti came around and raised me many times.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Yuu050622211952a

Samti would also look out for us newbies.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Yuu050622213030a

Not long after, Samti created a new character so he could level with us: Schnuckiputz! :D

FFXI-2015-09-01 Yuu050705192133a

As traveling was not only a time-consuming experience but also really dangerous, Mighto brought my Yuuzuki to the Valkurm Dunes one day. As Yuuzuki started in Windurst, it was an extremely long trip which included a boat trip.

If you aggroed an enemy (there was no indicater which enemy was hostile and which wasn’t), it followed you.

Forever.

Until you exited the zone.

It did not deaggro after a few steps like in FFXIV.

No, this was the real game.

So if you aggroed something, you had to kill it or pull a train behind you and hope you survive. Which you only do when you’re high enough in levels. Which I wasn’t.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Big issues 03

They also had Mog Houses, a small room in your home town. It was instanced and if you opened it, anyone in your party could access it.

Everyone had a Mog House.

Everyone.

And it was completely free of charge.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Mog House 01

First, I put Rusty Buckets into the room. It was the only thing I had obtained from fishing! It was a fun thing to do at the time and everyone would make fun of your rusty buckets.

But my room quickly improved:

FFXI-2015-09-01 Mog House 02

FFXI-2015-09-01 Mog House 03

They later added pretty cool figures for the house:

FFXI-2015-09-01 Mog House 04

It was during my first days as White Mage where I ran through Port Windurst, got stuck on a wall and fell down into the water!

I was stuck there.

The good thing: I could walk on the ground of the river and ocean up to a light house in the distance.

The bad thing: I couldn’t get out.

None of my friends had learned a teleport spell to the teleports I had attuned to. Nobody had a Warp II spell with which you could warp party memebers to their home points. Only rarely, someone walked buy and they wouldn’t listen to my shouts of helping me out. XD

So I had to call a GM. I was super nervous and had to explain it to my mom who complained that I was playing too long again… <.<;

FFXI-2015-09-01 Big issues 01

Another challenge was the Three mages gate. It was a gate in some ruins in Sarutabaruta and you needed a White mage, a Black mage and a Red mage to stand on the circles in order to open it.

Only later you could obtain a key item that enabled you to activate the seal yourself! But until then you always had to bring people. With the right job. You could only change your job in your Mog House by talking to your Moogle. So it all had to be planned in advance. it also took 20 minutes to get to the gate from the nearest town.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Big issues 02

Our Rising Phoenix LS leader was Kushana with the alternative character Jadzia.

Once, Mighto, Schnuckiputz and me went to watch their Ballista match. It’s the PvP area of FFXI where you could reserve a slot and go in there with a pre-made group.

We followed our leader around and must have embarassed her in front of her japanese friends a lot. >.<;; I think. It was fun though! We couldn’t be attacked or anything, just watch the match.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Kushana Jadzia 02

This here is Kushana. Kushana always looked cool.

FFXI-2015-09-01 Kushana Jadzia 01

Kushana also used the most awesome angry symbol-character-things:

FFXI-2015-09-01 Kushana Jadzia 03

FFXI players had their own way how to deal with RMTs. RMTs would level through some awful software or fish fish at the coast. Players just MPK’ed them if they were in an area with monsters. Just pull enemies there, then warp away. The monsters would then aggro whoever is nearby. Mostly, the RMTs were low level so they died quick.

FFXI-2015-09-01 RMT

And this is how we stopped the RMT Qufim Area invation.

Sightseeing log: Climbventures

Next up were some Climbing Vistas.

I tell you, some of them are so hard, it’s really frustrating.

Firt up, It took me several attempts to get on this thingy:

2015-06-05 Sightseeing 21

Like a pro, I jumped on a fence that was 5 times as high as myself! ö.ö

2015-06-05 Sightseeing 24

While this doesn’t look spectacular, it’s a hell of work to get up there.

2015-06-05 Sightseeing 44

I discovered an awesome treehouse. It’s owned by some wils Miqo Ladies who would not share with me. They were kind enough to let me up there though. It was a nice adventure.

/point like you mean it!

2015-06-05 Sightseeing 25

Dancing on the vines.

I pretended to be a member of those cultists in Northern Thanalan.

It worked.

Not sure if it’s good or not…

2015-06-05 Sightseeing 33

Some gate climbing. It was not really spectacular like the other vistas before…

2015-06-05 Sightseeing 46

Climbing on that stone pillar wasn’t as easy as expected. My Chocobo has to jump super far!

Super Challenge: climb on the fence of a bridge.

Hint: It’s not challenging at all.

Last but not least, the most amazing view!

I felt like I was looking down on an old magical land, never touched by anyone.

2015-06-05 Sightseeing 30-3

2015-06-05 Sightseeing 30-4

Impressed by the beauty, I decided, this would be a good time to have a break from the sightseeing and instead prepare for my trip to Heavensward.

Tomorrow, the journey will begin and I’m excited!

Many things will happen tomorrow and the next weeks. Hopefully, I will be able to report in time next week. With so much going on, I’m not sure if I can handle the flood of new things to discover and writing about it at the same time x_x;

See you in Heavensward! (If the servers allow it…)
